David Phy is guest for Sept 22 concert.

Dr. David Phy  joined the Birmingham Southern College faculty in Fall 2018 as the Director of Bands. He holds a david phyBME from the University of Louisville, a Masters in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a DMA in Jazz Studies from the University of Illinois. He has been published in the International Trombone Journal and is a member of the Alabama Music Education association (AMEA) and the Jazz Education Network (JEN). His teachers include Jim Pugh, Norman Bolter, Bob Brookmeyer, Gunther Schuller, George Garzone, George Russell. Prior to moving to Birmingham Dr. Phy taught and performed in the New Orleans area including being a member of the world famous Dukes of Dixieland from 2014-2017. He spent 5 years in Las Vegas, Nevada performing in bands up and the “strip” and has performed at the House of Blues, the New Orleans French Quarter Fest, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, The National World War II Stage Door Canteen and The Arizona Music Fest. Dr. Phy is a New Orleans Big Easy Award winner, and has performed with The Four Tops, Bonerama, The Temptations, La India, Monica Mancini, Marvin Hamlisch, Bob Brookmeyer, Jim Pugh, Delfeyo Marsalis, The Maynard Ferguson Alumni Band, Joe DeFrancesco, Tom Garling, Rodger Ingram, The Yin Yang Twins, Chip McNeil, Louis Belson, Lena Prima, Louis Prima Jr., Charo, Ben Vereen, and Blast!

No advance tickets, admission is “at the door”

Adults and Seniors  –    $7.

Students from any school or college $3.


This is the 1st of 4 SuperJazz concerts this season.

Future concerts are on Nov 24, 2019,  Feb 9, 2020 and April 26, 2020
