Ray Reach will be our guest artist on the September 22, 2013 SuperJazz Concert.
Ray is an accomplished guitarist, arranger, composer, conductor and music producer. Although he has performed , arranged and composed in a variety of genre, he is perhaps best known for his work in the jazz idiom. He now serves as Director of Student Jazz Programs for the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame.
He has taught jazz courses and computer music (MIDI) courses and workshops at numerous colleges, including Cedar Valley College in Dallas, Texas, Birmingham-Southern College, the University of Montevallo, the University of Alabama, the University of North Texas and others. From 1998 to 2005, Ray was instructor of jazz and music technology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) He is also a faculty member of the W.C. Handy Jazz Camp, a regular featured performer at the W. C. Handy Music Festival and a member of the W. C. Handy Jazz All-Stars.
As an added bonus, Ray has invited Jazz Vocalist Rebecca Rafla to join him for a cameo performance on this concert. Rebecca is a Samford University student, and regularly performs with the Samford University Jazz Ensemble.
As with all SuperJazz Concerts, the performance will be in Brock Recital Hall on the campus of Samford University. Doors open at 2:30, Concert begins at 3:00 and will last about an hour and a half.
There are no advance ticket sales. Admission is $5 for Adults and Seniors.
Students from any school will be admitted for $3 with ID.
Samford Students, Faculty and Staff are admitted free of charge.
